The Winged Heart
The Winged Heart symbol was chosen by Pir-o-Murshid Inayat Khan
for the Sufi Order International at the Orders inception in
1910 (called at that time the Sufi Order of the
West), and has since been copied in different forms by
several groups, not all connected directly or even indirectly to
the Inayati line of Sufi initiation. Inayat Khans
commentary on the symbol can be found in the volume of his
teachings entitled The
Gathas, in the
chapter The Symbol of the Sufi Order.
The Winged Heart calligraphic emblem seen on this site contains Pir-o-Murshid Inayat Khans name plus a traditional eulogistic invocation said in juxtaposition with the mention of a Sufi saint. This design is privately held by the Sufi Order International and its kindred organizations, the International Sufi Movement and the Sufi Ruhaniat International. Copyright is pending. Reproduction for any purpose requires permission of the Sufi Order Secretariat or of Hafizullah, the designer.
